Why send out Magnets? Why not just a paper invitation?
A note or an invitation can easily get lost in a pile of papers or by mistake get thrown away unless you put in on your refrigerator! So sending a magnet as a reminder or invitation to your guests is easier for them to remember plus they see it as a reminder on their refrigerator.
Save the Date magnets can be used for any occasion – they can be hand made or bought.
There are prices to fit everyone’s budget. Some businesses offer templates to choose from while others works strictly with you to create an original design.
The low priced magnet companies send their printing to China so if you’re concerned about having made in America magnets make sure to ask where the printing is. Some companies use archival inks, which means your magnets, will never fade! Also you will want to know the thickness and flexibility of your magnets.
If you decide to make your own. You can buy the all ready cut magnets. They come in a few sizes. You can print your own design from your printer, like you would do business cards. Then cut up the sheets of paper and stick them to the sticky side of the magnet material. Or buy a roll of magnet material and use a paper cutter to cut up the magnets.
If your putting more than a magnet in the mailing envelope you may want to weight the envelope before you decide to put any other paperwork inside. Depending on the size of the magnet and what else you put in the envelope may cost more than a $.45 cent stamp.
Your magnets can be more than a Save the Date – they can also be an invitation.
This way you are only sending one magnet out and do not have to send out an invitation! Some people do like to follow up with a formal invitation and will put “formal invitation to follow” this way the people know they will be getting more information about the occasion.
Your wedding announcement can also have an RSVP on them giving an email or telephone number to contact so you will know if the person you sent the invitation to will be attending. This also saves money because you do not have to send out RSVP’s this is a good way to save on postage too!
They can be very creative, you can use a photo of yourself – pets, a drawing – anything you can imagine…. just make sure the company you’re working with doesn’t charge you extra for the design time if you decide to work with a company to create an original design. There are software programs to help you step by step create your own original artwork.
Your announcement can have a few words – at least the date and your names, unless it is a photo and everyone your sending the magnet to knows you. Sometimes for weddings people are invited because they are family and do not necessarily know the couple, then last names should be used.
When to send out your announcement?
If your occasion is a destination or people have to travel far to attend you should send your magnets out at least 8 months in advance. You want to give your guests plenty of time to schedule time off and if needed book transportation and where to stay over. If your guests are local and the wedding/reception is local then 3 months before your wedding or event is a good time.
